A Study on Factors Related to Joint Attention Interaction between Mother and Child with ASD Dyads

Abstract
This study aimed to examine the factors related to joint attention interactions between mothers and children with ASD dyads. To investigate the interconnected factors, three mothers of children with ASD were interviewed two to three times up to three hours per time. Interview data were analyzed by five factors which are mother, family, informal support, and formal support as well as sociocultural system factor based on systems theory as a theoretical framework. The findings showed that joint attention interactions are related to mothers¡¯ emotional and physical health, locus of control as mother factors, relationships with husband and extended families as family factors, supports
from community and parent educator as informal and formal support factors, and interconnection in Korean culture and attitude on education as sociocultural system factors.
